Once Upon a Time – New Shortest Fairy tale

You’ve seen it- the very viral fairy tale

that ends up in your mail box,

every nine months, or so?

Would you classify the succinct story as snarky or sweet? Does it deserve a re-write or second look?

The story goes: “Once upon a time”… a man asked a woman to marry him. The woman said, ‘No’ and for a while, she lived  happily-ever-after….alone.

The Updated Version

And, she went shopping, hiking, knitted tiny caps for babies in the hospital, and volunteered at Casa de las Madres and Onebrick She danced, frequented museums; watched American Idol and Masterpiece theater; drank really great wine, always had a clean house, did yoga three times a week; cooked quinoa, tofu, brownies and triple-chocolate chip cookies and delivered them to friends; she made a difference and a contribution; rarely argued, didn’t get fat, traveled more, had many friends, compatriots, pals, and buddies.

She entertained, went to lectures, bowled, she played and prayed – as needed.  She never watched sports (except the San Francisco Giants, the World Series, the Super Bowl and Wimbledon) She eschewed  itchy, cheap, lingerie; had high self-esteem, she only cried at movies and yelled at those rare sporting events…she looked fabulous in sweat pants, designer jeans and the proverbial LBD. She was a happy camper. However, it didn’t take Seven Dwarfs or a kissing frog to tell her something was missing.

Tell me another fairy tale, she felt that she was missing an important component…she craved and pined for someone to partner with, to establish a connection – a union – a much more than mere-friendship person.

She knew she wanted to hold hands with a certain someone, to share life’s experiences. And, to wake up with in the morning, to kiss good night and wish ‘sweet dreams’ to – every night -for the rest of her life.

She wanted a Prince of man; a perfect partner in crime, in play, in plans, to grow old with.  And she opened her heart and her eyes and developed a more worldly, less myopic, view.  She was always one to share and play well with others.

When, lo and behold…she met a friend…a boy friend – and, in time, they clicked, they matched, they had chemistry and were in harmony. They got along and enjoyed one another’s company. They took it one day at a time and re-wrote a new happily ever after. The Beginning.
